Right now I was digging (no second meaning…) around the web and stumbled upon (no second meaning two… some articles about a recent patent filled by Apple called Multimedia data transfer for a personal communication device. Apple’s patent relates to multimedia devices and a system which provides multimedia data to a mobile personal communication device such as a cell phone or a walkie talkie. In other words, it is a kind of voice to text and back to voice system… does this ring any bells?

Some wild bells start ringing on my brain so hard that I fell off my chair…

LET THE BELLS RING

Anybody knows that voice recognition technology works almost very well and is widely used in telephony. Now imagine that one can convert any voice speech from english to text, translate it to another language, and say the translated text in that language… is the bell ringing harder? Yes! If one can accomplish this, the world will see the first commercial on-the-fly translation phone ever made. Imagine talking in English with someone in France and being understood in french by that person and understanding in English what the person is saying in french on the other side. Brilliant? Yes!

In my dreams, guess who would provide the translation? Read my lips: G O O G L E !

Remember that Google and Apple have a partnership! Erick Schmidt (Google’s CEO) is also a member of the Apple’s board.

This is just a wildest dream! But, who knows what Steve Jobs and Google are doing behing curtains…
